Jesus was the most influential person who ever walked the earth. But today many people are consumed by their interest in celebrities, musicians, and politicians from today or the past. People constantly browsing the internet just to see what’s happening in a celebrity’s life. They read biographies of what they call “icons” from different decades such as the Beatles or John F. Kennedy. But in the midst of all this media-mad frenzy, there is a person who’s ultimately the most influential and most famous person who ever lived.
The Toronto Star wrote in 2004 “His spirit is alive in movies, music, and fashion. No one forgets about him but many fail to recognize how his presence here in this world has made everyone’s life a lot better. Chances are you cannot wake up and go through one day of your life without seeing some traces of his presence. You might see a cross around a colleges kids neck, a sticker on a car or even a Church on the corner. Jesus of Nazareth was his name and although his physical presence is not here, His spirit and teachings live on through his followers and scripture.
Jesus has undeniably been the most influential person who has ever lived. His life has deeply impacted the world all throughout history. His influence has been so powerful that he is recognized by Christian and non-Christians alike all across the globe for his good deeds, compassion, and love. Mohandas K Gandhi once said, “ I know no one who has done more for humanity than Jesus.”
Jesus has influenced the world and society today by sharing the gospel, setting an example of how to walk with God, and saving us from our sinful nature through his crucifixion. He has set an example for unto which we should all strive to be. Throughout time many positive changes have inspired the followers of Jesus Christ to make great changes. Saints although obviously with the given title are more noticeably some of the Christians who have made a difference. Still today, there are many other people who put them self in danger to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, give generously to those in need, and are kind and understanding to those whom no one else is.
People, in general, are more kind, caring, obedient and loving because of the life of Jesus Christ. Many examples could easily be named, such as Mother Theresa and Martin Luther King Jr. There are so many in every community that does not get as much notice. They consist of Churches and volunteers in the community. They help at the clothing drives and food banks. They can even be the friendly lady in line who lets you go ahead because your child is fussy.
They don’t seem that significant but just think of all the people in your community who need them. Think of how the world would be if everyone only cared about themselves. He alters the lives from which whom he encounters by spreading the gospel. All throughout history souls have been saved, lives have been changed and nonbelievers have become believers.
Saul of Taurus, the chief persecutor of Christians had a dramatic encounter with the risen Christ while he was on his way to arrest Christians in Damascus. Three days after Jesus spoke to Saul he not only a believer but, he also preached the Gospel. He became an instrument of Jesus. He helped others become believers and because of him, the church became stronger. It is amazing that the good news of Jesus Christ can change lives. Still remains true to this day. Their testimonies might not be as dramatic as that of Saul, but lost souls, drug addicts, hardened criminals, and even the average Joe have become better because of the evangelism of the story of Jesus Christ through the New Testament.
Historians predict there were eight to ten thousand Christians at the end of the first century. Today there are eighty-five main Christian denominations with an estimated 6.9 billion Christians worldwide.
He sacrificed his self to save us. He died on the cross so that we might be saved. Through his teachings, we understand ourselves better. We know that we are of a sinful nature and the only way we can be saved from our repressions is through his undying love. Because of him, we know that we can go to heaven if we repent our sins. He has shed a light on the mystery of life. Even during the crucifixion, Jesus remained like a loving father to those who condemned him. He stated, “Father, forgive these people because they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34). True Christians have set the standards of moral fiber, values, and faith in society. All this has been established through Jesus Christ. Christians are expected and have proven to have better attitudes in times of despair.
Believers of the gospel know what is possible through Jesus Christ. A great historian, Philip Schaff wrote” This Jesus of Nazareth, without money and arms, conquered more millions than Alexander, Caesar, Mohammed, and Napoleon; without science…..he shed more light on things human and divine than all philosophers and scholars combined; without the eloquence of schools, he spoke such words of life as were never spoken before or since, and produced effects which lie beyond the reach of orator or poet; without writing a single line, he set more pens in motion, and furnished themes for more sermons, orations, discussions, learned volumes, works of art, and songs of praise than the whole army of great men of ancient and modern times.”
